Gym Traverse January 4, 2010

This is a video taken of me doing a very short traverse in the gym. I have been breaking in my new 5.10 Anasazi LVs, which feels like an awesome pair of shoes that desperately needs a good breaking in. Before anyone says anything, I had my harness on because I had been belaying my daughter a few moments earlier :-)

  1. your balance would improve immensely if you stopped backstepping on vertical terrain, especially when traversing...

  2. What do you mean by backstepping? I'm bad at traversing in the gym...I get overwhelmed by the sheer amount of holds to chose from.

  3. i'm referring to placing the outside of your foot on the hold, and turning your knee inwards. the vast majority of people that i've coached do this often, and unnecessarily, on vertical terrain. people do it thinking that it's "getting their hip closer to the wall", but in fact, it moves your centre of gravity away from the wall, and limits where you can reach...
